A serious music neighborhood

Ravenna kids grow up a few blocks from Roosevelt High, home of one of the best high school jazz programs in the country. That’s a high bar and a great thing to aim at. The kids who get there are the ones who learned to play by ear and improvise early, not just read the page.

Ear, improv and reading, together

We work across five paths: reading music, improvising, chord charts, ear training and songwriting. Every teacher can teach all five. Your kid’s lessons lean into what they love, and still build the whole musician.

Your teacher comes to you

No studio, no waiting room, no parking hunt near the ravine. Your teacher drives to your house and teaches right there. We call the whole approach finding your musical fingerprint.

If your kid quit lessons before

That’s usually a bad fit, not a lack of talent. The restless kid, the kid who plays by ear, the kid who’d rather write their own song: those are our favorite students.

How it works

3. Your first lesson happens at your place.

Questions parents ask

Can you help my kid get ready for school jazz band?

Yes. Improvising, chord charts and playing by ear are core to how we teach, and they’re exactly what jazz band asks for. We teach saxophone too.

Do we need a piano?

Not to start. A basic keyboard works, and your teacher will help you figure out what’s worth buying later.

How young can they start?

As young as 3.

How long are lessons?

30, 45, or 60 minutes, weekly.
